Here at PackFreshUSA, we’re not just packaging pros—we're proud pet lovers. Many of our customers use our products to store and sell pet treats, homemade pet food, and grab-n-go kits. In fact, a large number of our employees have animals of their own, and we know firsthand how important it is to plan ahead for them during an emergency.

June is National Pet Emergency Month and we wanted to touch upon the basics of pet preparedness.

At my own home, I'm a pet parent to:

  • 1 Golden Retriever named Apollo

  • 2 indoor cats, Bella and Licorice

  • 9 backyard chickens

Whether it’s a hurricane warning, wildfire evacuation, or extended power outage, I always include my animals in my emergency planning. That means:

  • Keeping extra food and water stored and sealed for each pet.

  • A grab-n-go bag for dogs like Apollo and cats like Bell and Licorice.

  • Pet medications, leashes, ID tags, and vaccination records stored with our family’s emergency kits

As a prepared individual and a responsible pet parent, I know that their survival and comfort depend on me—and I plan accordingly. We have covered this subject on previous blog (see links below). I use back packs that store my extra food I love using the 5 mil Silver Mylar Stand Up Pouches  they come in a variety of sizes, so you can do individual meals, or a large that could hold multiple meals.

I love keeping freeze-dried chicken or beef livers in the smaller bags that I can either reconstitute for the cats as part of a meal or give them treats to my Golden Retriever, Apollo. The smaller bags are perfect for this application. Make sure to use an oxygen absorber to keep the food an treats at their best, not only will you be able to store the food longer, but the flavor is just as the day you packed the food up. Make sure to heat seal all Mylar and do not rely on the zip, heat seal it is so important.

Having a quick bag to be able to get your animals to safety. For cats keeping the items in a bag inside a pet carrier is a great ways to have everything organized. Using quality packaging to store food and treats is super easy using Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers.

Happy Prepping!
