30 Days of Easy Preparedness - Day 1: Shoes & Flashlights at the Bedside

DAY 1 — EASY ITEMS TO DO FOR NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
Put Easy Slip-On Shoes & a Flashlight Next to Your Bed Tonight
Preparedness doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Sometimes the smallest things can make a BIG difference during an emergency.
Today’s challenge takes less than a minute:
Put a sturdy pair of easy-to-slip-on shoes and a flashlight next to your bed before you go to sleep.
Why slip-on shoes?
If an earthquake, severe storm, fire, or other emergency happens during the night, there could be broken glass, debris, or other hazards on the floor. Choose shoes that are easy to slip on quickly without having to stop and tie laces. Keep them right next to your bed where you can reach them.
Why a flashlight?
A power outage can leave your home completely dark. Keeping a flashlight within arm’s reach means you won’t have to stumble through the house looking for one.
Mimi’s Tip: Check the batteries while you’re at it! If you use a rechargeable flashlight, make sure it’s charged.
And if you wear glasses, consider keeping those right beside your shoes and flashlight too.
