Prepper’s New Year's Resolution
With 2025 just around the corner, it's a great time to reflect and plan ahead. Setting a Prepper’s Resolution could be the key to ensuring you’re ready for the challenges of the new year. Preparedness isn't just a gift for you—it’s something that benefits your entire family.
If you’re not sure where to start, PackFreshUSA has tools like our Food-Storage Calculator to help you assess your needs. It will guide you in determining the right amount of food storage based on your family size and specific goals.
Step 1: Make Your Plan
- How many people are in your plan?
- How many months are you planning for?
Once you answer these questions, you’ll have a clear starting point for planning your preparedness goals for 2025.
Let’s kick off the year by getting your preps in order. Last year, I began a series on “What to Store for One Person for One Year,” which can help you get started. This new plan is based on a three-month supply. If you have a family of four, you can simply multiply the plan for one person by four to create a three-month supply for each family member. I like using the 7 Mil Mylar Box Set | PackFreshUSA is perfect for this type of storage. It comes in a variety of sizes.
January - Grains
(1 Person, 3 Months)
Since grains make up the largest portion of food storage, they’re a great place to start. To make your goals more achievable and cost-effective, aim to add 20–25 pounds of grains per person each month. If your budget allows, you can purchase more. Bulk buying and seasonal purchases can help you save money. For one person, you'll need 300 lbs. of grains for one year, or 75 lbs. for three months. For a family of four, you'll need 300 lbs. to get your families three months' supply.
GRAINS (75 lbs.)
37.5 lbs - wheat
6.25 lbs. - flour
6.25 lbs. - pasta
6.25 lbs. - cornmeal
6.25 lbs. - oats
12.5 lbs. - rice
February - Water Storage & More Grains
(1 Person, 3 Months)
It’s essential to have enough water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. Having your own bleach to purify, canisters to store come in a variety of sizes. Store bought and filters like Life-straws, Alexa Pure or Burkey are great options to add to for water filtration.
Continue adding grains as you’re able and focus on increasing your water storage during this month.
March - Legumes (1 Person, 3 Months)
Legumes are an excellent source of protein, making them an essential part of your food storage. You can easily put all the variety of legumes up and put some more grains away as well. I would just round up the weight to an even about.
